Description
Melaleuca pentagona is a highly ornamental dense shrub, known for its profusion of purple-pink fluffy, pom-pom-like flowers which appear from September to December. The bark is a papery grey/white and the foliage deep green and needle like. Melaleuca pentagona can be used for hedging, as wind breaks or screens, mass planted, and is excellant for cliff faces, sand dunes and coastal situations. Commonly known as honey myrtle. Melaleuca pentagona will do well in a wide range of soils and is adaptable to both sandy soils and clay loam. Perfect for low maintenance water wise gardens. Water well until established. Fertilize in spring with a controlled release fertilizer and tip prune or shape to suit a wide range of landscape needs. This attractive shrub does well in full sun and can handle acidic soils and coastal winds.
